RAF Fitness Test ( RAFFT )
The RAF Fitness Test is carried out on initial entry , and then each subsequent year of service for all members of the RAF , whether Regular or Reserve . It consists of 2 parts : an Aerobic fitness test , and a Muscular fitness test . Conducted in a gym in sports kit , you are required to meet a certain level depending on your age and gender .
Part 1 : Aerobic Fitness
The Multi-Stage Fitness Test ( MSFT ) more often referred to as the ‘ bleep test ’, measures your aerobic capacity ( known as VO2max ) relating to your age and gender . You will run shuttles between markers 20m apart whilst an audio track plays , aiming to arrive at the 20m mark in time with the ‘ bleep ’. Each level of the test lasts approximately 1 minute , with progressively more shuttles per minute as the level increases .
