Fitness for the role
The RAF Regiment relies on the physical ability of its members to deliver Force Protection in situations which could potentially have serious implications for RAF operations . It is important that each member of the RAF Regiment , whether Regular or Reserve , meet a set , measured level of fitness , and maintain this throughout their career .
The initial process is as follows :
Royal Air Force Fitness Test ( RAFFT ) This is conducted as part of the recruitment process , and each subsequent year of service to ensure you meet and maintain the standard of fitness for service in the RAF . The test is specific to both age and gender .
Regiment Applicant Selection Test - Reserve ( RAST-R ) This test is conducted at the beginning of your Phase 2 training only . It includes the strength aspects from the RAFFT which are specific to both age and gender , however the rest of the test is age and gender free .
Regiment Annual Fitness Test - Reserve ( RAFT-R ) This is conducted at the end of your Phase 2 training as well as each subsequent year of service . The test carried out at the end of Phase 2 and differs slightly from the test conducted annually ( see details in text ).
