AGE OF ACTIVITY
1
In David Lloyd Clubs’ Age of Activity study, 69%
of those who exercised said they did so ‘to be
healthy’; 45% felt better health was also the main
impact exercise had had on their life, with 21%
saying it helped their medical condition.
29% of exercisers said the main benefit of
activity was the way it made them feel ‘more
positive’.
“There is lots of research to support the benefits
of older adults participating not only in regular
cardiovascular exercise, but also strength
training at least twice a week,” says David Lloyd
Clubs’ Marie Graham.
“After the age of 60, we lose approximately 3% of
our muscle mass and associated strength every
year. Strength training not only helps combat this,
but also slows down the ageing process.”

The brains, and cash,
behind breakthrough fitness
game Wii Fit - Nintendo
- may be on the verge of
replicating that success.
The Ring Fit Adventure,
released for their Switch
device, is linked to a tough
but bendable plastic ring,
the size of a steering wheel.
Rather than Wii Fit’s real
life exercise routines, this
adventure is an interactive
story, aiming to draw the
player in while using the
ring to work them out.
