• Spine long and straight, and tipped forward in a 1pm position.
• Core engaged.
• Ideally, shins vertical, although this will depend on flexibility.
• Shoulders relaxed and down.
• Avoid gripping the handle too hard.
5. The catch preparation
• Continue to compress your legs until you are back in position 1.

On a well-maintained machine, setting the lever at four creates a drag factor that’ s roughly equivalent to rowing on water. However, machines vary so it’ s best to go by feel and start clients off on a light setting until technique is well established.
4. The recovery
• Inhale ready for the next stroke.
• Begin to tip forward to a 1pm position as you move the hands forward.
