THE
FROM YOUR
MACHINE
Push with the legs and once
they are almost straight, lean
back a little.
Keep spine straight and core
engaged as you feel the
pulling on your hands.
Exhale through this drive
phase.
General tips
Keep your head up
– position the
monitor high to
encourage this.
Keep the movement
fluid, not jerky.
It’s generally suggested the footplate
strap should go over the ball of the foot,
but some clients may need it to be a
little higher to allow for greater foot
flexion, which will enable them to get
into the start position more easily.
Break the rowing stroke into five key
phases and focus on the five key stages
we’ve highlighted.

Lean back to an 11am
position.
Pull the handle towards the
lower ribcage.
Keep elbows in, wrists
straight, and avoid hunching
the shoulders.
