( b) For Category 2 applications, at its next regular meeting after receipt of the written report and recommendation of the Credentials Committee, the MEC will:
( 1) adopt the report and recommendation of the Credentials Committee as its own; or
( 2) state its reasons for disagreement with the report and recommendation of the Credentials Committee, present matters needing further follow-up and resolution with the Credentials Committee or deny the application altogether.
( c) If the recommendation of the MEC is to appoint, the recommendation will be forwarded to the Board for a final decision.
( d) If the recommendation of the MEC would entitle the applicant to request a hearing as set forth in this Manual, the MEC will forward its recommendation to the CEO, on behalf of the Board, who will promptly send special notice to the applicant. The CEO will then hold the application until after the applicant has completed or waived a hearing and appeal.
3. B. 7. Board Action:
( a) If the application is designated by the MEC as Category 1( Streamlined), it is presented to the Board or an appropriate subcommittee of at least two members where the application is reviewed and action is taken on appointment, reappointment, and clinical privileges. Any decision reached by the Board Committee to appoint will be effective immediately and will be forwarded to the Board for informational purposes at its next meeting.
( b) When there has been no delegation to the Board Committee, upon receipt of a recommendation that the applicant be granted appointment and clinical privileges, the Board may, at its next meeting:
( 1) grant appointment and clinical privileges as recommended; or
( 2) refer the matter back to the Credentials Committee or MEC or to another source for additional research or information; or
( 3) modify the recommendation.
( c) If the Board disagrees with a favorable recommendation, the Board or its designee should first discuss the matter with the Chair of the Credentials Committee and the Chair of the MEC, in an attempt to resolve the potential issue or discrepancy. If the Board’ s determination remains unfavorable, the CEO, on behalf of the Board, will promptly send special notice that the applicant is entitled to request a hearing.
