INDIAN RELAY!
BY: TERESA GARRETT-MARTIN
W
ith the Bighorn Mountains to the west and the
Black Hills to the east, the city of Gillette is a busy
hub for travelers and locals looking to discover the won-
ders of Wyoming. Centrally located in the Powder River
Basin, Gillette is a corridor to many of Wyoming’s activi-
ties and sights to see. Travelers seeking a break from the
road can take in the many interesting sites and activities
that the city of Gillette has to offer before continuing on
their journey.
Over Memorial weekend all eyes will be looking towards
Gillette as Horse Nations Indian Relay Council brings the
extreme sport of Indian Relay to the Cam-Plex Morning-
side Park. Cloud Peak Energy 2018 Tour of Champions
Season Opener race will bring teams from the surround-
ing states to compete for the title of Champion, earning
them their seat in HNIRC’s Championship of Champions.
Morningside Park traditionally hosts Wyoming Horse Rac-
ing, LLC. flat track horse racing on the weekends during
the month of June. But on the 26th and 27th of May the
excitement of indian relay will kick off the start of their
flat track season.
“Gillette is looking forward to having all the teams, their
families and fans here over Memorial weekend,” says Vis-
it Gillette Executive Director, Mary Silvernell. “Most of us
have heard about Indian Relay and some of us have even
3
traveled to areas like Sheridan to watch it, but this is the
first time we get to experience it here in our hometown.”
