W
e finally made it. The snow is gone, the grass is green, and Indian Relay season is about
to grace us with its magnificent presence. I for one am extremely excited about kicking
off the year with the Cloud Peak Energy Season Opener in Gillette, Wyoming. This Memorial
Day weekend race has taken a lot of preparation by the Horse Nations Indian Relay Council
and members of the community of Gillette.
These races can’t take place without major sponsors. Unlike pari-mutuel horse racing, Indian
Relay purses have to be raised privately. One great sponsor of Indian Relay is Cloud Peak
Energy. I want to thank Cloud Peak Energy for supporting this venture by providing the purse
money for the Championship and Consolation rounds of the Indian Relay Races.
I’m also appreciative of Bomgaars joining us for this event as a sponsor and teaming with Wrangler in a retail promotion. With
this promotion, fans can purchase Wrangler jeans at Bomgaars of Gillette and receive a ticket to the event. I encourage fans and
teams to visit Bomgaars and check this deal out for themselves.
Our host hotel is the Ramada Plaza Hotel. I like it for its location, indoor pool for the kids and their hospitality. They are offering a
special rate for Indian Relay, so be sure to mention the race when you call.
