SCENIC CITY CHORUS, CHATTANOOGA, TENNESSEE Scenic City Chorus is practically floating. That’s because the Chattanooga area has recorded over 7 inches of rain in the first fifteen days of July! One member had 6 inches of water in her basement but there have been no injuries among us due to the storms and water. We had a blast on our trip up above the Mason-Dixon Line back in June. It was fun meeting our sister choruses and hearing the groups we had never heard before. And we learned a lot about everyone else from the creative chorus scavenger hunt. We are looking forward to many more bus trips north! If you’re in the Chattanooga area on July 27, come see us at the Mountain Arts Community Center. We are having two shows that Saturday, a matinee at 2:00 p.m. and an evening show at 7:00. After that, we will be concentrating on our two big events in the fall – a Young Women in Harmony Festival and show and our Christmas Café, featuring a community chorus. By inviting women in the area to participate with us in singing, we are sure to gain several new members. In the meantime, we are beating the heat by rehearsing in a church sanctuary for the summer. (The elementary school where we normally meet does not have the air conditioning on in the summer.) BIG thanks to Spring Creek Road Baptist Church for allowing us to use their fantastic facilities. One of the things we are concentrating on in rehearsals is “unit sound.” Our Quartet Club is also busy rehearsing. The quartet club is designed to promote quartet singing within the chorus. Currently, there are about 40 members. During club meetings, under the guidance of our director, club members discuss quartet singing skills, practice singing in many different quartet formations (with many different people), and train their ears by listening and giving constructive criticism. The director has now put them together into quartets that will perform on Scenic City's Christmas show in December. Hopefully, you will get to hear some of our quartets at the regional competition in the spring! Well, there is MORE rain on the way so I’d best go “batten down the hatches.” See you at Fall Fling!
