involvement in education as a coach
(baseball, iceless hockey and basketball for
the past 10 years with more than 30 teams)
and school board member (seven years on
the board including one term as president).
There are four Petkus children: Matthew,
Andrew, Maegan and Katherine. “Katie
joined our family in 1997. What a 25th
wedding anniversary gift from the People’s
Republic of China! We received her at
Changsaw City, Hunan Province in
mainland China. That was our journey of a
lifetime.” John says Siena contributed “to
my belief that BMWs, luxury condos and
overflowing bank accounts do not make
one rich. Rather, community service,
family commitment and Christian values
always provide a higher yield of personal
prosperity. I believe that Siena is still a
broker of those priceless commodities.”
Bonnie Mae Baughey Watters of Adrian
has been involved with children for five
decades: In addition to 50 years teaching
Sunday school, she taught elementary
students in rural Lenawee County and in
Adrian for 27 years before retiring in 1989.
She and her husband, George, also have
worked with the children’s division of
Adrian Probate and been foster parents to
35 young girls and boys. They also enjoy
being parents and grandparents to their
two grown children and six “grands.”
Although George had quintuple bypass
surgery two years ago, “with the help of
God, we plan to enjoy our future years
traveling and enjoying our home, family,
church and friends, living our lives to the
fullest.”
