Say Hello Then Say Goodbye

December 6, 1941. Bettymay stands holding her baby April by the cold
long dark pier. She is waiting for her husband Jake who has been at
sea for the last two months doing Navy exercises, because Europe has
been at war for the last few years. Bettymay waits in the cold by the
pier. Her heart is beating so fast it’s like they’re meeting for a first
date.
Jake is on the ship looking out at the pier, looking out for Bettymay
and April. The noise of the ship changes as it starts to slow down. Jake
is getting excited the closer it gets. He wants to see them so much he
almost forgot there was still work to do on board. All the crew are
dressed in their finest wear for everyone to see.
Finally, the ship stops. Jake can see Bettymay and April. He
disembarks the ship and runs towards them. He picks the two of them
up in his arms not wanting to let them go. It feels like it has been
