years not months. The two of them can’t wait to get back to their own home which is not too far from the sea. Next morning, the sun is shining. They all are sitting having breakfast, listening to music on the radio. Bettymay is feeding April and Jake is reading the newspaper. Bettymay is happy to have Jake back home. All off sudden news comes in that Pearl Harbour has been attacked. Jake and Bettymay both look at each other in shock. Bettymay has tears in her eyes knowing what this means. The phone rings. Jake is called to base. He has been assigned to the Battleship USS Pa rrott DD. Jake tells Bettymay the news. She feels like her heart is breaking. Jake tells her not to worry it’s going to be ok, he will be safe, but he knows he can’t be sure. When the time comes for him to leave, Bettymay and April are there to see him off. Around them were so many other sailors’ mothers, wives, sons and daughters, there to say goodbye to their own. There was a noise of sobbing and crying in the air. As Jake was boarding the ship he stopped and looked back at his family, not knowing when he would see them again. It was time for the ship to pull away. All the crew were on deck waving goodbye. As the ship pulled away, Bettymay stood holding April and watched the ship until it was a small dot on the horizon.
