GT
The first application
which comes to mind
when large inline single
hooks are mentioned
is GT fishing or casting large lures for
other reef dwelling species. The Zerek
Thermite Popper comes fitted with
two trebles that I swap out for two 7/0
Mustad Kaiju Inline Single. The rear
hook I run straight to a split ring but
the front hook I run as an assist hook,
with 200lb assist cord, straight from the
swivel at the front of the lure. This gives
me a straight-through connection from
leader to hook, when combined with
a single inline hook this gives me a
greater chance at staying connected as
I feel the singles, once engaged, are less
likely to pull.
stick baits, this is where trial and error
are paramount to ensure you know
what the different hook set ups can do
to the action of your chosen lure. The
Zerek Zappelin in both 160mm and
220mm are well suited to a few different
styles of hook setup without sacrificing
any of the action. My preferred set up
for the 220mm Zappelin is two 8/0
Mustad Kaiju Inline Single on both the
front and rear. I also set up with a treble
on the belly and 8/0 Mustad Kaiju Inline
Single on the rear. One thing to note
is the belly treble setup is great for a
sweeping style action. The extra weight
helps with the dive and allows the rear
of the lure to pivot around the extra
centre weight, adding to the wobble
action.
