When the conversation of hooks comes
up, there are a few big names that come
to mind. At the top of that list is Mustad. this hook right at home with heavy salt
use but, on the flip side, will give it an
extended freshwater life span.
With the continual drive to increase
results and better ourselves, a lot of
different factors come to mind. For
me the buck stops with the last line of
connection, the hook. We can never
place enough importance on this area
and one hook that I frequently find
myself retrofitting to lures is the Mustad
Kaiju Inline Single hook. Retrofitting hooks to lures can be an
expensive exercise for anglers who
are looking to get something different
out of the action of the lure or to
increase the hook holding potential.
When upgrading hooks most people
automatically focus on a bigger or
better treble to replace what was
previously there. An alternative to that
is the simple in-line single hook.
With sizes ranging from 8 through to
8/0, the Mustad Kaiju Inline Single has
a big eye, a thick gauge and a short
overall length to provide the hook with
maximum strength. The needle point
of the hook is curved slightly inwards
for more direct hook penetration
and a short barb allows even easier
penetration. The duratin finish makes

A simple thing like changing the size,
weight, make and style of hook on a
lure can drastically change the lure’s
action for the better or, obviously, for
the worse. This can give the angler
many options when deciding which
hook best suits the species they are
targeting.
