Relationships
NQ Dry Tropics seeks to learn and expand on its relationships with Traditional Owner groups of the region , and the wider Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community , to create opportunities through our sphere of influence . Strong relationships are needed to create a living legacy to care for Country by building more resilient inclusive communities and landscapes .
The cornerstone of these relationships is the NQ Dry Tropics Traditional Owner Management Group ( TOMG ), and we commit to continue supporting this group and finding ways to meaningfully involve Traditional Owners in all aspects of natural resource management . Through this RAP , we will take positive steps to lift our contribution to the reconciliation process and be a role model for the Burdekin Dry Tropics region and the broader community . Relationships supporting reconciliation align with NQ Dry Tropics ’ Strategic Plan priority to support regional communities to become more cohesive and environmentally , socially and economically resilient . This strategy includes developing community connections and delivering culturally appropriate work to promote reconciliation .
More than 90 per cent of our region ’ s landholders are in the grazing industry , so this will be a key focus area for relationship building . In considering our sphere of influence , it is our priority to build relationships between Traditional Owners and other land managers , and to develop a united vision and focus of caring for Country .
