NQ Dry Tropics Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan

The development of a Reconciliation Action Plan ( RAP ) came out of discussions with the NQ Dry Tropics Traditional Owner Management Group ( TOMG ) as a way to strengthen our relationship and commitment to Traditional Owners across the region . The TOMG provides regional Indigenous leadership and advice on Cultural and natural resource management matters . The TOMG was established in 2003 , and has grown in strength since that time , with current members representing 14 of the 16 Traditional Owner groups of the region . All members of the group identify as First Nations people , and as the Traditional Owners of their respective Country . The TOMG operates under a Terms of Reference , with an elected Chair , and typically meets at least twice per year .
In 2021 , following the recommendation from the TOMG , the NQ Dry Tropics Board endorsed the preparation of the Innovative RAP and establishment of the RAP Working Group . Our Innovate RAP focuses on developing and strengthening relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples , engaging staff and stakeholders in reconciliation , and developing and piloting innovative strategies to empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples . Our RAP provides for employment and enterprise opportunities for the Traditional Owners of the region , and celebrating the diverse Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples of the region .
The NQ Dry Tropics RAP Working Group was established in October 2021 , and held its first meeting in November 2021 . The inaugural RAP Working Group included representatives from the NQ Dry Tropics Board and TOMG ; Senior Managers , and project staff .
