Q & A WITH RICHARD
1 . What was your first pay cheque and what did you spend it on ? I earned £ 350 a week which I spent mainly on rent and for enjoying and traveling around London .
2 . Can you share a specific project or initiative you consider a turning point in your career ? What lessons did you learn from it ? In 2015 I was involved in the launch and continued marketing of the largest luxury golf estate in the North of Mauritius . This gave me tremendous exposure to the real-estate projects environment and where I built the knowledge of how to successfully launch large scale projects to an offshore audience . We sold over USD300 million in the first four years and to date this is still the most successful new project launch in Mauritius .
3 . Have you faced any significant setbacks , failures and / or challenges in your career ? How did you overcome them , and what lessons did you take away ? Luckily I had the ‘ opportunity ’ to while I was very young after university , to go flat broke , in London , with no job and no place to stay . Call it rock bottom . Luckily I had family where I could sleep on the couch .
I had to work exceptionally hard to build myself up again . It ’ s something that sticks with me to this day , and reminds me to make rational and sound decisions , and to always consider long term consequences of those decisions for myself and clients .
