Where do you get your inspiration from?
VAMPIRE HUNTRESS was inspired by the idea of a half vampire and half angel being brought up in a human world. Then being caught in an epic war between angels vs vampires. I wanted it to be a Buffy meets Lucifer style series.
I have a whole book full of ideas. They come to me from myths, music, snatches of conversation, dreams...it's constant. But it's when it comes together with something that has more meaning...
So, in VAMPIRE HUNTRESS it was Hackney, London. Violet is an orphan, raised in a children's home, a misfit with mismatched eyes (violet and black). A computer genius and geek, she has to grow up fast in an area with gangs, not even knowing she's supernatural until she hits her 21st birthday and starts to gain her powers...
So, it's Violet's story behind it and her voice that really turns on my imagination!
What is your favourite motivational phrase?
'Rebel here, yeah?' It's a quote from BLOOD DRAGONS, a book in the REBEL VERSE, by the vampire Light. Pretty much what he lives by...and a great rallying cry!
Which song would you say was the anthem for your latest book?
The series - Rebel Angels - actually has its own theme song "She Made the Angels Cry" by the rock singer Tim Black! He was inspired by the first series in the Rebel Verse (Rebel Vampires) to write a song about the lead savant vampire ("Forevermore"). I'm a total music fanatic and I LOVE his music. I decided to use both songs in the audio books for VAMPIRE HUNTRESS and BLOOD DRAGONS.
