ISPA WEBINAR:
Greening Your
Spa Operations
G
oing green at your spa doesn’t have to result in making immediate, drastic changes. Did you know that even the smallest
green initiative, like recycling or replacing light bulbs, can
make a big difference to the environment and your bottom line?
Listen to ISPA’s webinar on “Greening Your Spa Operations:
Making Effective Change” and learn from your peers how they effectively implement their sustainability programs.
l According to Blake Feeney, formerly with Canyon Ranch Spa Club
and now with the Spa at
Terranea Resort, Canyon
Ranch eliminated individual
bottled water and installed a
resort-wide water filtration
system. This has helped cut
waste by approximately
600,000 plastic bottles,
and saved the resort
US$100,000 annually.
l With a goal to decrease
energy consumption by five percent resort-wide,
Pebble Beach Resort installed energy-efficient hot water boilers,
freezers, air-conditioning systems, kitchen equipment and LED light
bulbs. According to Laura Davidson, the resort managed to cut its
carbon emissions by 950,000 pounds. After three years, they have
also decreased energy consumption by 14 percent and saved
US$325,000 annually.
l Roberto Arjona at Rancho La Puerta says initiating community
support programs, such as organic community gardens, local community cleanup efforts and resort recycling programs, has helped the
resort build stronger staff relations, customer support and loyalty,
and recognition as a leader in sustainable practices.

with the Chairmen’s Council
As ISPA Vice President Becky Brooks takes on a new role
as executive director for another association in the
Associations International family, past ISPA chairmen
send their best wishes by recalling some of their
fondest memories working with Becky.
“Becky is a treasure. No matter what we would
throw at her, whether it was a last-minute
change or a condensed timeline, she would dig
in with a smile to help us move forward. She is
smart and caring, and we will greatly miss her.”
—Kate Mearns
“I have so many fond memories of Becky—
including the time when she (7 months
pregnant) and her hubby ‘camped’ in our basement during a golf tournament and the early
morning competitive walks prior to our ISPA
Board meetings. What fun! I am really going to miss her.”
—Jean Kolb
“Becky’s ‘Chin-Up-Chin-Up’ song to put a smile
on the day at 6-am-planning-meetings during
Conference gave everyone a much-needed
shot in the arm and was a real behind-thescenes highlight. It’s Becky through and
through; moving seamlessly through every situation with style,
grace and always getting the job done.”
—Jim Root
“What I so admire about our Miss Becky can be
described as: a grounded spirit within ‘Super
Woman’. As she balances a young family and
her career, she is able to keep a very healthy
and calm perspective. AMAZING!!!”
