Hear about the City and civic engagement on PSL On The Mic
The essence of civic engagement is connecting a city with its residents.
On Episode 61 of PSL On The Mic, we sit down with Makenzie Spittler, the Communications Department ' s assistant manager for engagement and budget, who shares with us the story behind two recently launched community-driven programs that have already made lasting impacts in Port St. Lucie.
The first initiative is the Flag Retirement Box Program, born from a resident ' s idea to make it easier to properly retire worn or tattered U. S. flags. In just two weeks, more than 260 flags were deposited in three boxes. As of Dec. 3, 919 flags have been collected. The second initiative, the Little Free Library program, helps us provide accessible literary resources to residents across the City. These are not just boxes of books, they create neighborhood hubs for imagination, connection and lifelong learning.

They connected with more than 100 other youth council members from 12 different Florida cities and learned about servant leadership, advocacy and leading by example.
Stephanie Vernot, Community Engagement Manager, also attended and joined a coordinator training session with more than 20 youth council coordinators. The theme was " Beyond Behavior, I See You," offering tools to help youth feel seen, heard and welcomed.
