Sharing Port St. Lucie’ s story at Smart City Expo in Miami
The City of Port St. Lucie presented“ Reimagining the Future of Public Spaces through Resident-Driven Civic Innovation: Co-Creating the Naturally PSL Initiative” during the Smart City Expo in Miami.
Presented by Kate Parmelee, Nikki Zheng and Sabrina McLeod of the Strategic Initiatives & Innovation Team, alongside Sarah Prohaska, Communications Director, the session highlighted how the City has welcomed more than 55,000 new residents since 2020 and responded by rethinking how to engage the community around green spaces.
In partnership with the Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation at Johns Hopkins University and the Centre for Public Impact, the City followed the Path to Innovation, a human-centered design process that included ethnographic interviews,“ How Might We” ideation and prototyping with storyboards, idea cards and wireframes.
The presentation walked attendees through each phase of the process, which culminated in the launch of Naturally PSL: Green Spaces and Places, a resident-informed initiative that connects people to nature, wellness and each other. The success of this initiative contributed to Port St. Lucie being named an All- America City, showcasing the power of civic innovation rooted in community voice.
The City and the project team are especially grateful to Bernardo Scheinkman, CEO of Smart Cities Americas, for the opportunity to share Port St. Lucie’ s story at this global event.
