Water control structure improvement projects
The City of Port St. Lucie is making strides in infrastructure by investing in drainage improvements for four existing water control structures. These structures – located west of Paar Drive, west of the Florida Turnpike and east of Darwin Boulevard – are set to undergo construction expected to last nine to 10 months per site, contingent on weather conditions. The entire project is slated for completion by March 2027.
This initiative aims to enhance water quality, effectively manage flood risks and improve water management through the automation of these structures, creating efficiencies within the system.
Funding for these projects is secured through various grants, including a $ 2 million Resilient Florida Grant from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, a $ 525,000 grant from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, and a $ 100,000 grant from the Indian River Lagoon. These financial contributions underscore the collaborative effort to bolster the City’ s water management systems and environmental resilience.
