Recent Grant Awards
City departments work collaboratively through the Grants & Advocacy Team led by the Strategic Initiatives and Innovation team to support funding for City priorities in alignment with the Strategic Plan. The following grants were recently awarded:
• Local Law Enforcement State Financial Assistance-Online Sting Operations Grant Program: Funding in the amount of $ 101,373 awarded to be used to plan and execute online sting operations targeting individuals soliciting children.
• National Youth Leadership Council Youth As Solutions- Naturally PSL Youth Council Subcommittee: Grant to provide Naturally PSL Youth Council Subcommittee members with the tools to lead projects that reflect their priorities, introduce fresh ideas and help ensure that Naturally PSL continues to grow in ways that protect and expand access to nature for generations to come.
• Florida Inland Navigation District Waterways Assistance Program-C-24 Canal Park Security Camera System: Funding in the amount of $ 105,000 for the installation of a comprehensive security camera system at C-24 Canal Park to improve safety and support the Port St. Lucie Police Department( PSLPD) in reducing crime and public disturbances.
Port St. Lucie Provides Testimony on the Select Committee on Property Taxes
The City of Port St. Lucie joined other local governments to provide testimony at the Florida House Select Committee on Property Taxes in Tallahassee on Sept. 25. The Select Committee is cochaired by Rep. Toby Overdorf and Rep. Vicki Lopez.
City of Port St. Lucie Finance Director Stephen Okiye provided testimony to the Committee as a representative of the panel selected by the Florida League of Cities to represent cities from across the state and was joined at the meeting by Vice Mayor Jolien Caraballo, Strategic Communications Team Leader Scott Samples and Deputy City Manager Kate Parmelee.
Among the points shared by Stephen:
The City of Port St. Lucie is committed to being a high-quality, efficient government organization that delivers value to residents. Over the past decade we have:
• Lowered property tax rates for 10 straight years
• Reduced our debt by $ 400 million
• Improved our bond ratings
• Increased services while decreasing staffing ratios
