Naturally PSL Green Spaces & Places: Love Your Block
The Naturally PSL team has been busy building community connections this September as a collaborator of the Love Your Block program. The team joined partners and experts from the University of Florida, Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences St. Lucie County extension office on an exciting lunch-and-learn session with neighbors from the Whispering Pine neighborhood. Dozens of residents not only discovered the nine principals of Florida-friendly landscaping but also learned how to get involved through Naturally PSL’ s Conservation Corps volunteer program to protect and activate the city’ s greenspaces.
One volunteer in Whispering Pines has already taken actions. Collaborating with Love Your Block program, Public Works and Communications, Naturally PSL welcomed its first resident-led volunteer garden on Tulip Boulevard! The project began when Rachel, a Whispering Pines resident, applied to adopt a green space through the Naturally PSL Conservation Corps program.
With the support of the City departments and the hard work of more than 20 enthusiastic young leaders from The Key Club at Treasure Coast High School, Rachel and her family transformed the area around her Little Free Library into a vibrant pollinator garden with Florida-Friendly plants. This garden not only beautifies the neighborhood but also serves as an excellent example of how the City could support residents in taking the lead to shape and protect their beloved green spaces in their neighborhoods through innovation and collaboration.
