Parks and Recreation announces the installation of the new Solar System Discovery Trail at Stars and Stripes Park!
Located along the trail on the east side of the park ' s solar system area, the Solar System Discovery Trail transports visitors of all ages on an educational journey through the corner of cosmos that we call home.
The sun, each planet( even Pluto!) and the asteroid belt are featured on educational signage posted along the trail that follows the physical planetary artwork already in the park. In addition to the content available on the physical signs, guided audio tours are also available.
Each sign features a QR code which will automatically open your phone ' s specific app store to download the free X-Trails app, which features multiple audio-guided walks, including two specially created for our younger explorers. It ' s as simple as downloading the free app, selecting your preferred audio tour and pressing play!
Available tours include:
• The Solar System( all ages): A journey from the sun to Pluto.
• A Comet ' s Journey( all ages): A comet ' s journey to the inner solar system, from Neptune to the sun.
• Mission to Mars( ages 4-8): A brief journey from the sun to Mars, for our youngest explorers.
• A Voyage to Saturn( ages 7-12): A middle-length journey from the sun to Saturn.
Additional audio content also is available, with three episodes focused on Earth ' s atmosphere and three more episodes focusing inside the Earth ' s crust. From the expanses of our solar system to the heart of the planet we call home, the Solar System Discovery Trail and its free X-Trails app provide a fun new way to learn while enjoying quality time at Stars and Stripes Park!
The Solar System Discovery Trail is one of just 20 such installations across the U. S., from New Hampshire to California, and one of only two in Florida. This new amenity also provides a perfect opportunity to connect a visit to Stars and Stripes Park to science and STEM / STEAM educational components and can serve as a perfect field trip opportunity for local schools and home school organizations.
