Keep Port St. Lucie Beautiful

KPSLB hot point: Battery disposal and recycling
As batteries become more commonplace in our day-to-day products, Keep Port St. Lucie Beautiful has been working to ramp up awareness about proper battery disposal, what types of batteries should be recycled, where they can be taken to be recycled and the hazardous impacts of improperly disposing of batteries in the curbside trash or recycling bins.
With batteries in everything these days, from our remote controls, smart devices, toys, wireless gaming consoles, power tools, FOBs, headphones, bluetooth speakers, earbuds, electric toothbrushes, beard trimmers, medical devices, cordless vacuums and even in vaping devices, we live in a rechargeable society. The question becomes: what should we do with these rechargeable batteries to ensure their safe disposal?
The answer is simple: recycle, recycle, recycle!
Almost all batteries can be taken to a local recycling facility or placed in a battery collection box. KPSLB has four containers throughout the City. The valuable resources contained in some of these batteries can be recycled and reused, and the others are slated for proper disposal at facilities designed to handle their complex components.
( The exception is alkaline batteries; these can be thrown in the trash as they are not considered as hazardous.)
