Building understanding through education
On July 31, the Utility Systems Department welcomed seven residents from the Sawgrass Lakes community for an educational tour of the Westport Wastewater Treatment Plant. Led by John Lamb and Jason Walker, the tour provided an up-close look at the advanced treatment processes that protect public health, preserve the environment and support the City ' s growing utility needs.
As one of the communities located closest to the facility, Sawgrass Lakes residents occasionally have questions about plant operations, including odors, noise and environmental impacts. Tours like these provide an opportunity to see firsthand the extensive treatment process, learn about the technologies and operational practices used to minimize impacts and gain a better understanding of the Utility ' s commitment to being a responsible and considerate neighbor.
By opening our doors and encouraging meaningful conversations, the Utility Systems Department continues to strengthen relationships with our community through transparency, education and a shared commitment to environmental stewardship.
