Port St. Lucie celebrates America ' s 250th birthday!
Thousands of residents and visitors gathered at the MIDFLORIDA Event Center on July 4 for another unforgettable Freedomfest. This year ' s event was especially meaningful as the City joined communities across the country in celebrating America ' s 250th birthday.
While Freedomfest lasts only one evening, it ' s an event that was months in the making. The Special Events Division begins planning well before the Fourth of July, working closely with City departments, public safety personnel, sponsors, vendors, entertainers and event partners to bring every detail together.
The final push began the Tuesday before the event as crews arrived at the Event Center to transform the grounds. Throughout the week, tents, fencing, lighting, power, signage, tables and chairs were installed while vendors, sponsors and production crews coordinated load-in. It ' s a fast-paced week with long days, countless moving pieces and plenty of teamwork, all leading up to the big day.
Then, on July 4, those months of planning came to life. Guests enjoyed a variety of food vendors, shopping the vendor marketplace, listening to live performances by Girlfriend Material and legendary drummer Max Weinberg with his interactive Jukebox show and making memories with family and friends.
As the sun set, a choreographed drone show featuring patriotic images celebrating America ' s 250th birthday filled the night sky before a fireworks display brought the celebration to a close.
Events like Freedomfest remind us why we do what we do. The City is proud to create opportunities for the community to come together, seeing thousands of people enjoying the evening, making memories with their families and celebrating together makes every hour of planning worth it. www.
