FDOT hosts Port St. Lucie Boulevard public meeting
On June 25, the Florida Department of Transportation( FDOT) held a public meeting at the Community Center, offering in-person and virtual attendance options. Residents had the opportunity to learn about the upcoming Port St. Lucie Boulevard project’ s design and potential construction impacts.
FDOT discussed the possibility of closing the bridge over the E-84 canal for reconstruction, which would accelerate construction and minimize community disruptions, as previously demonstrated with the Floresta Drive bridge. If PSL Boulevard is closed during the E-84 bridge work, traffic will be detoured via Darwin Boulevard and Savona Boulevard for approximately six months.
Public Works staff actively participated alongside FDOT and the design consultant, addressing residents’ questions and concerns throughout the meeting. Attendees received detailed information about the proposed roadway and bridge sections, enhancements to the Gig Place intersection, right-of-way acquisition, harmonization measures outside the right-of-way, temporary traffic control plans, detour routes and project renderings.
As the final phase of Port St. Lucie Boulevard, this initiative aims to expand the roadway to support anticipated population and employment growth and to improve safety and access for bicyclists and pedestrians.
An additional open house will be scheduled before construction begins, ensuring ongoing communication and transparency with the community. Construction is slated to start in Fall 2027 and is expected to be completed by Spring 2030.
With a projected cost of approximately $ 21 million, the project is funded by FDOT. The City has agreed to advance the construction cost to FDOT by November 2026, expediting the timeline, and will be reimbursed in 10 equal quarterly payments starting in Fiscal Year 2028.
This collaborative approach between FDOT and Public Works underscores a commitment to community involvement, efficient project delivery and enhanced infrastructure for Port St. Lucie residents.
