Stars and Stripes Park grand opening
Stars and Stripes Park officially opened June 4, bringing a beautiful new patriotic space to Port St. Lucie, and we extend heartfelt thanks to Michelle Franklin of the St. Lucie County Property Appraiser’ s Office, Debbie Hawley of St. Lucie Public Schools and our City Council for attending and showing continued support for our community.
Their presence highlights the strong collaboration among our public officials, and we are grateful for their ongoing commitment.
We also encourage our legislators to remain engaged and continue supporting projects that strengthen and uplift our City.
Future Now Summit
Earlier in June, Civic Designer Nikki Zheng represented the city at the Landscape Architecture Foundation’ s Future Now Summit, joining practitioners, researchers and City leaders from across the country to explore the future of green space, public design and civic innovation. Sessions ranged from biocultural land restoration practices to multi-species design thinking to the economics of public parks investment, providing fresh perspectives on community-rooted green space activations through the Naturally PSL initiative.
Vice Mayor Jolien Caraballo traveled to Washington, D. C., as part of the 2026 Florida League of Cities FAST Fly-In, held June 22-25. While in the nation’ s capital, Vice Mayor also met with Deputy Director Jared Borg at the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs, continuing Port St. Lucie’ s efforts to strengthen federal partnerships and advance key priorities.
During the visit, Vice Mayor outlined the City’ s vision for the Walton & One Revitalization Project, a 46‐acre redevelopment initiative focused on transforming the U. S. 1 corridor with new retail, housing, entertainment and pedestrian‐friendly public spaces. She highlighted the project’ s potential to serve as a long‐term economic catalyst and a meaningful enhancement to surrounding neighborhoods.
The City also discussed its pursuit of Opportunity Zone designation for the Walton & One area, an important economic development tool that could attract sustained private investment and accelerate momentum on the master plan. With state recommendations expected later this summer, the meeting helped reinforce Port St. Lucie’ s readiness to move quickly once the federal review process begins.
In addition, Vice Mayor emphasized Port St. Lucie’ s commitment to major infrastructure improvements, including the City’ s BUILD Grant application for the Village Green Corridor improvement effort. This corridor serves as a key connector to the Walton & One district and is an essential part of the City’ s broader mobility and public safety strategy.
By combining FAST Fly‐In engagements with targeted federal outreach, Port St. Lucie strengthened its presence in Washington and reinforced its reputation as a proactive, collaborative community focused on securing resources and partnerships that support long‐term economic growth and enhance quality of life for residents. www.
