Florida Tropical Training Week 2026
The National Weather Service( NWS) and meteorologists from across Florida are once again joining forces for Florida Tropical Training Week 2026, a statewide initiative designed to strengthen community readiness ahead of the hurricane season peak. The program emphasizes four core goals: Teach, Reach, Ready and Respond, ensuring Floridians have the tools and understanding needed to stay safe during tropical threats.
The curriculum is crafted specifically for Florida residents and references Florida Division of Emergency Management( FDEM) resources. Topics focus on readiness, safe response behaviors, interpreting forecast products and understanding post‐storm safety considerations.
Each day includes theme‐specific guidance:
• Day 1, July 27 – Getting Ready: Introduction to essential preparedness actions.
• Day 2, July 28 – Hunker Down: How to stay safe when a storm approaches.
• Day 3, July 29 – Post‐Storm Safety: Guidance for returning home, avoiding hazards, and beginning recovery.
• Day 4, July 30 – Lessons Learned & Panel Discussion: Featuring experts from the National Hurricane Center( NHC) and FDEM.
Florida Tropical Training Week reinforces one crucial message: preparedness saves lives. By understanding forecast products, recognizing hazards and learning the right actions to take at each stage of a storm, residents can protect themselves, their families and their property.
