Helping make Freedomfest a blast!
Throughout June, the Communications Department was hard at work getting ready for the City ' s signature Freedomfest event.
From designing graphics to promoting the event on the City ' s website, in emails, on social media, in the media and more, the Communications Department was committed to making sure as many people as possible knew about the Fourth of July celebration.
Those who couldn ' t attend still had a chance to watch the drone show and fireworks, which were livestreamed on Facebook. Thanks to everyone who helped get the word out about this incredible event!
Youth Council showcases Love Your Block project
Twelve enthusiastic Youth Council members took center stage at the Big Summer Blowout on June 2 at Minsky Gym, hosting a Love Your Block booth that showcased their ongoing beautification and revitalization efforts in the community.
This volunteer-led initiative is part of a $ 3,000 mini grant awarded to the Youth Council. The project includes creating a bird sanctuary in the Whispering Pines neighborhood, transforming a City green space.
During Phase 1 of the project, Youth Council members built and painted eight birdhouses, laying the foundation for the sanctuary. The next phase will include installation of birdhouses, bird feeders, a bench, signage and community clean-up, all designed to further enhance the neighborhood’ s natural beauty and foster civic pride.
