Tree planting in honor of Arbor Day
In celebration of Arbor Day, Public Works planted two trees near the canal at SW Tulip Boulevard. Planting trees remains a primary objective for the City, as they offer several benefits. Our beautification division collaborated closely with Communications to gather resident input on preferred tree planting locations as part of the Whispering Pines Love Your Block program. During the planting ceremony, staff members read a proclamation signed by Mayor Shannon Martin.
Hogpen Slough public meeting
The City hosted a public meeting April 23 for residents to learn more about the Hogpen Slough Stormwater Treatment Area( STA) Project. The project is in the design and permitting phase, with completion of the design anticipated by the fall. Construction is anticipated to begin in early 2026.
Stormwater treatment areas are constructed wetlands designed to filter nutrients by promoting plant growth and the formation of peat soil. Besides helping with flood protection, their primary function is to remove phosphorus from urban and agricultural runoff before it flows into the North Fork of the St. Lucie River.
Located north of Walton Road and west of Lennard Road, the Hogpen Slough STA will treat runoff from areas like Savanna Preserve State Park, Savannah Club and Spanish Lakes Golf Village.
