Recent park improvements focused on safety, accessibility, community experience
A variety of upgrades have been successfully completed across several City parks, each aimed at improving safety, enhancing accessibility and elevating the overall visitor experience.
At Charles Ray Park, one tennis court was transformed into a new pickleball court featuring a new fence and relocated entrance. After installation, the surface required a 30-day curing period, bringing the total project time to nearly two months, while preserving all remaining tennis courts.
Oak Hammock Park received a full renovation of both restrooms, including resurfaced floors, completed in just three weeks and greatly improving cleanliness, safety and ADA accessibility.
At Whispering Pines Park, protective netting around the foul poles and concession building was replaced in a two-week effort, and all four baseball backstops were replaced over a three-month period, major upgrades that significantly improve safety for players and spectators.
Sportsmen’ s Park saw several improvements, including new outfield netting on all three baseball fields, completed in only two days, and an upgraded playground surface within the fenced area, finished in about one month to enhance ADA compliance and play safety.
At Pineapple Snook Park, crews repainted all five pineapples, refreshed the interior dish areas and repainted all three gazebos in a four week revitalization project.
Security improvements also were completed at Whispering Pines and McChesney parks, where IT replaced all cameras and contractors upgraded all camera enclosures to stainless steel, with each site taking roughly three weeks.
Jessica Clinton Park received a fully resurfaced basketball court, with a 30-day cure period included in the two-month project timeline.
Finally, Veterans Memorial Park saw its parking lot repaved along with the addition of new ADA parking spaces, completed in about one month.
Collectively, these projects reflect the department’ s continued dedication to maintaining safe, accessible and high-quality parks for the entire community.
