Public Works gets new camera truck
Public Works has a new van that is equipped with a camera that will be used to support its stormwater and drainage division. The camera is on wheels with a long cable and will be used to video the inside of stormwater drainage culverts to help determine the current conditions of the entire culvert pipe.
The images and data collected from the camera are displayed on two monitors inside the van for staff to review. The camera provides a 360-degree look inside the pipe. The information is updated into special software and will be tracked as part of the culvert inventory program. The information will help Public Works determine infrastructure that needs to be repaired or replaced throughout the City.
FDOT hosts public meetings for Midway Road widening project
The Florida Department of Transportation hosted virtual and in-person public meetings for residents to learn more about the proposed improvements on Midway Road( County Road 712) from Glades Cut-Off Road to Jenkins Road and a partial interchange at Florida’ s Turnpike. The project will help increase capacity and support safety.
Information from the meeting will be available on the FDOT project website at www. midwayrd. com. Public Works staff attended the meeting and continues to coordinate with FDOT and project partners on the project improvements.
The project will widen the existing Midway Road from a two-lane undivided facility to a four-lane divided facility. The project also will replace the existing Midway Road bridge over Florida’ s Turnpike and add a partial interchange to include a northbound off-ramp and a southbound onramp. The Turnpike will complete the remainder of the interchange as part of a future project.
Left-turn lanes will be provided in the median of Midway Road to allow access to adjacent side streets and most businesses. The project includes a buffered bike lane on both sides of the project and a 12-foot bike / pedestrian path along the south side of Midway Road.
Construction is anticipated to start in Summer 2027 with completion anticipated in March 2030. The cost of the project is $ 71.4 million. Construction will be completed in phases to minimize interruption to traffic. Access to all adjacent properties will be maintained during the construction of Midway Road. www.
