28th annual senior holiday basket drive
Whitmore baffle box project complete
Construction is complete on the installation of a baffle box at the end of the D-19 Canal and entrance to the Elkcam Waterway.
A baffle box is an advanced stormwater treatment system using screening and hydrodynamic separation to capture pollutants. The screening system, suspended above the sedimentation chambers, captures and stores trash and debris in a dry state helping minimize nutrient leaching, bacterial growth, bad odors and allowing for easy removal.
In addition, a culvert pipe was replaced that carries water under SE Whitmore Drive, supporting water flow and preventing erosion, roadway damage and flooding. Improvements were funded through a Surface Water Assessment Grant( SWAG), the American Rescue Plan Act( ARPA) and a small portion of the citywide stormwater fee.

Each year, City employees from all departments come together to give back by collecting items for seniors in need during the holiday season. In collaboration with the Council on Aging St. Lucie, we were able to deliver holiday boxes and a gift bag to 25 City of Port St. Lucie local seniors to help celebrate the holidays.
These boxes contained food and other nonperishable items, as well as blankets, puzzles, lotions and other thoughtful gifts. All items were generously donated by City employees.
In addition, gift cards to Walmart were donated by the American Public Works Association Treasure Coast Branch. This annual drive has become a wonderful opportunity for departments to have fun, work together and positively impact our community. It also brings us great joy to deliver and spend time talking to our residents.
This heartwarming initiative would not be possible without the cooperative support of all departments, leadership and dedicated City employees.
We look forward to continuing this tradition each year. Thank you to everyone who supported and donated. Your contributions and commitment made a meaningful difference, and the recipients were deeply appreciative of the donations.
