Overcoming the odds
Rahman Iman Hussein @ Prince Bachelor of Business and Commerce graduate
Rahman Iman Hussein , or better known as Prince , was born in Malaysia but his parents are Rohingyans who fl ed Myanmar and sought refuge in Malaysia more than three decades ago . Through the goodwill of Dignity for Children Foundation , a non-governmental organisation ( NGO ) learning centre for underprivileged and refugee children , Prince completed his primary and secondary education and secured the needed documents to be able to attain tertiary education . In 2016 , Prince applied and was selected to receive the Jeff rey Cheah Foundation - Monash Equity Scholarship which provided a full scholarship to pursue his undergraduate degree in Monash University Malaysia .
Upon completing his degree , Prince continues to contribute back to the underprivileged communities in Malaysia . He co-founded Paint the World ( PTW ) Malaysia , a platform that unites youths regardless of race , religion or socio-economic standings . Its efforts include meaningful initiatives in collaboration with community organizations to assist and deliver family emergency aid to vulnerable communities affected by the Covid-19 pandemic . To provide education to the needy , in his capacity as Vice-President of PTW , Prince has also set up the “ United World Academy ’’.
Upskilling for the new normal
Dr . Amanina Abdur Rahman Doctor of Philosophy graduate
Amanina Abdur Rahman is an Economist in the Social Protection and Jobs Global Practice at the World Bank . In this role , she performs analytical analysis and engages in policy dialogue in the areas of jobs , labor markets , migration , and social protection . Prior to joining the World Bank , she completed a PhD in economics at Monash University Malaysia , where she also taught economics and statistics .
Amanina ‘ s research on the vulnerability of Malaysian workers to the economic shock from the Covid-19 pandemic was published at the end of 2020 . Her research revealed that obtaining employment during the Covid-19 pandemic – as well as in the post-pandemic economy – requires upskilling and reskilling , particularly to obtain digital and socioemotional skills , where socio-emotional skills include skills such as resilience , teamwork , negotiation , and relationship management
A helping hand
Wong Xi Rong Bachelor of Business and Commerce graduate
Project Septhus was a non-profi t social project founded by Monash alumni , Wong Xi Rong and a group of friends with the aim of raising 10,000 bottles of sanitizers for distribution to B40 community groups , refugee communities and NGOs during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic . The School of Business assisted Project Septhus to raise RM1,500 and provided 300 bottles of sanitizers .
