Monash Business Responsibility Day
In 2019 & 2020 , the School of Business continued to host the Monash Business Responsibility Day and is a mainstay of our Orientation Week activities . The focus of this initiative is to introduce fi rst year students and existing students to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and to the importance and relevance of this framework to the School of Business . The SDGs serve as a blueprint to educate business students about practical issues that directly impact the world of business and provide steps to achieve a more sustainable future for all .
Past activities on Monash Business Responsibility Day included craft-building workshops and Student Instagram challenges around the theme of sustainability . The School works with key local partners in the sustainable business sphere ; like Biji-Biji Initiative *, Me . reka *, Sampah Menyampah * and our alumni to raise awareness of the sustainability agenda .
World Humanitarian Day
Celebrating World Humanitarian Day is an opportunity for the School to inspire our future generation towards humanitarian activism and to becoming socially-conscious citizens . In 2019 , the School held a public forum , entitled “ Capacity Building for Refugees : The Way Forward ”. The aim of this forum was to hear from key stakeholders on the current challenges faced by refugees in Malaysia and to explore opportunities for education institutions to build capacity for refugee inclusion and access . A major outcome was a white paper proposing access to higher education for refugee youth in Malaysia . The School also hosted life skill workshops for refugee youth and a bazaar to support vulnerable communities - refugees , indigenous ( Orang Asli ), and the under-privileged - in raising awareness and funds , through the sale of handicrafts .
In 2020 , the School invited four changemakers to speak at a forum titled “ Leaving No One Behind : Bringing Positive Changes to Peoples ’ Lives under the Sustainable Development Goals .” The speakers shared how they tackled key issues and challenges brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic to vulnerable communities in Malaysia and the South East Asian region .
