Sonja Lefebure has discover‘ when one door closes another one opens’. The Wanganella resident bought the local general store and Post Office 8 years ago,‘ in the middle of a drought‘. When the grocery / food side of the business became unviable Sonja reluctantly closed it. With her love of people though, Sonja missed the company of her customers and passing trade, so has turned the old shop into a Gallery of local craft and art and a coffee shop- Billabong Gallery.
Open Monday to Friday 9am- 5pm everyone is welcomed with a friendly smile and freedom to browse at leisure. Visitors can enjoy a fresh made coffee and homemade cake or biscuits while perusing the goats milk and aloe vera soaps, paintings, knitted items, jewellery and some rather trendy boot protectors which adorn the walls and shelves of the gallery.
Sonja also makes special occasion cakes and delivery to Hay is available. Next time you are travelling south, why not pop in and visit the gallery, or take the short drive to Wanganella for coffee. Hot homemade soup and homemade ice cream are also big favourites at the Billabong Gallery.
