Service Medal for SES Volunteer
Participating in the St John’s (Ambulance) Cadets as a teenager,
has led Aaron Eames into a career as a Non Emergency
Transport Ambulance Driver and a volunteering-career in the
State Emergency Service. ”I thank Robert Marmont,” says Aaron
with a smile, “For suggesting the SES to me.”
Although Aaron has served 22 and a half years with the SES, it
was only recently that he was presented with his National
Service Medal for fifteen years service to the New South Wales
State Emergency Services. The medal should have been
presented seven years ago but, according to Jan Eames,
Aaron’s mother, the original medal was lost or misplaced and
there were procedures to be got through before a replacement
could be issued. Mr Jim Smith, acting State Emergency
Commissioner, presented the medal to Aaron at the annual
Auburn, NSW, awards night in December.
Joining the Hay SES in 1991 Aaron was trained for road crash
rescue and other duties performed by the Hay unit including
flood boat and vertical rescue.
After being accepted into the NSW Ambulance Service, Aaron
transferred to the Auburn SES unit to continue his role within the
SES. Currently, Aaron is active as a Team Leader, rescue truck
driver and soon to be endorsed as a trainer/assessor in first aid
and trainer in communications equipment. His other duties
include operations set up, training scenarios and general running
of the unit in conjunction with other officers and staff.
During his time with the SES, Aaron has attended various emergencies including the 2007 Hunter and Central Coast
storms, Blacktown and Penrith storms, Hawkesbury/Nepean Floods and the recent Blue Mountains bush fires.
Aaron has also received his 10 and 15 year accreditations, 10 year good Conduct Medal for the NSW Ambulance
Service and various certificates associated with the SES.
Aaron is the son of Jan and Brian Eames of Hay. He was raised in Hay and attended Hay Schools.
