Geoff Chapman on Saturday 27th Appril , became the nineteenth name to be engraved on the Bushy Bend Jog Champion ’ s trophy , “ The Colleen and Bob Behl Shield ”. Geoff had to dig deep in Saturday ’ s jog to take the title , when Gordon Honeyman ( who was two and half points behind Geoff before Saturday ’ s jog ) was easily first home and needing only two others to finish before Geoff to secure the title for himself .
Ross Headon passed Geoff with about two hundred meters to go to take second place and with Marg Booth closing fast , Geoff had to seriously think about breaking from his usual walking routine and run to make the title his . Geoff kept his cool and continued to power walk over the line in third spot a meter ahead of Marg thus giving Geoff the title by half a point over Gordon . Gordon , Ross , Geoff and Marg all broke their previous best time by thirty second or more .
Blue Pearson who was having his first run after a six week break , finished fifth in the points .
Two laps Phyllis Jones 31:36 , who says “ even grandmothers can do it ”.
Cody Paterson is aiming to get his name on the trophy like older brother Harley . Running a time of 22:55 for three laps at the last run for the season , he is well on his way to achieving his goal .
Previous winner Digger Booth congratulates this seasons winner Geoff Chapman .
Both Geoff and Gordon are to be congratulated as they have dominated for the last twenty weeks with Geoff finishing with 84.5 points , Gordon 84 , Cody Patterson 42 , Blue Pearson 38.5 , and Marg Booth 37 .
A new season started on the 4th of May . Each round of competition lasts 20 weeks . Runners are awarded points for winning and placing but the run is mostly about health and fitness . Run , walk or jog for one , two or three laps of the 1.3 kilometer track , its all about beating your own times .
