SPRING SYMPOSIUM
ETC HOSTS SUCCESSFUL SPRING SYMPOSIUM
Stephanie Krause , Chair
@ luciaridens Get ready to travel back in time with Excellence Through Classics ! This March , ETC sponsored an exciting Spring Symposium for Latin & Classics students in grades 5-8 , and it was a blast ! The theme for the week-long event was “ Seven Wonders of the Ancient World ,” which tied into the Exploratory Latin Exam . Over 200 students participated in both live and asynchronous activities , and it was a week to remember !
ETC organized several asynchronous activities for the students , including impromptu art , a digital escape room , mini quizzes , and a National Junior Classical League video . These activities were all related to the event ' s theme , making it an immersive and educational experience for everyone involved .
On March 11 , students joined a live event on Zoom , where they had the opportunity to participate in Roman Games presented by Katy Reddick and Shirley Hall . They also got to build a scorpion catapult with Nathalie Roy and learn about the Temple of Zeus in Minecraft with Jessie Craft . It was a fantastic opportunity for the students to connect with likeminded peers and learn more about ancient history in a fun way .
ETC made sure to capture all the highlights and share them on their social media pages . Students and schools that completed a media release form received a certificate of participation , courtesy of ETC Program Chair Katy Reddick .
If you missed out on the Spring Symposium , don ' t worry ! ETC is already planning next year ' s event , and we would love for you to join us . If you have any questions or would like to volunteer on the Program Committee , contact Katy Reddick at program @ etclassics . org . Get ready for another unforgettable experience !
Stephanie Krause ( chair @ etclassics . org ) is a middle school Latin teacher at McLean School in Potomac , MD . She received a Master ’ s in Classics from the University of Colorado Boulder and considers it her mission to show that great minds don ’ t think alike and we should celebrate the differences we all have .
