Rogers Police: Continual growth and dedication

The Rogers Police Department was formed in 1971 with a part-time staff and was led by its first police chief, Dennis Miltz, from 1971-2001. The Rogers Police Department became a full-time, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, agency in 2003.
The Rogers Police Department today has an authorized staff strength of 37 full-time and part-time employees and responded to over 8,000 calls for service in 2025. The command staff consists of the chief of police, deputy chief of police, captain of services and captain of patrol.
Patrol division staff work 12-hour shifts, over four different teams, that are led by a sergeant. There is a wide variety of specialty assignments and opportunities within the police department, which will continue to expand as the city grows.
The Rogers Police Department is backed by community support, which is the result of a strong partnership with residents that has been built over the years. The department is well-supported by a new mental health and wellness coordinator position and volunteer staff consisting of four reserve officers and one police chaplain.
The department also has an active K-9 officer program, welcoming Ares, a German shepherd, with handler Officer Ryan Palecek in mid-2025. In Greek mythology, Ares is the son of Zeus, and the name is a nod to K-9 Ares’ predecessor and Rogers Police’ s recently retired police dog, Zeus.
Additionally, Rogers Police Department offers many community outreach programs, which enhance relationships with citizens, including Citizens Police Academy, Shop with a Cop, Special Olympics fundraising, Coffee with a Cop, Night to Unite, the Battle of the Badges Blood Drive, the Justin Morneau Winter Coat Drive and more.
