Not even half of the school-aged children are attending school and the adult literacy is about 41% (Kristina Chew). The quality of education is poor considering the amount of poverty and that they are limited with the amount of resources that are available for them to receive. The poverty in Ethiopia has had an impact on a lot of its residents. The main residents that are at risk are the children. The Ethiopian children have the odds against them. One in every eight Ethiopian child dies before they turn five (Wikipedia). They don’t have the simple things that children in developed countries have. Developed Countries (N) – A country with a lot of industrial activity and where people generally have high incomes (Dictionary). Having just food, water, housing and clothing would be a blessing for the Ethiopians. The little water they do have is contaminated and is often located many miles away. The leaves off the trees is sometimes a meal for the children. The circumstances slows down their body development leaving them behind the other children around their age. Most of the children are exposed to many diseases if they already don’t have any. Also adults are at a disadvantage too. Half of the women population reside in the rural area (K Ringhem).
