Postgraduate Programme Handbook Feb 2013
OVERWORDAGE LIMIT FOR ASSIGNMENTS POLICY 1. Students should comply with the set word limit for coursework. Assignments which exceed the stated word limit by more than10% will be penalised 2. The word count for a written assignment (e.g. essay, report, literature review) is based on the text. The contents page, abstracts, appendices, reference lists and bibliographies are not included in the word count. 3. Sources cited in the text (i.e. author, date and any quotations) are included in the word count. 4. Assignments which exceed the set wordage by 10% and 20% will have a penalty of one grade applied at the time of marking (B2 to B3; C3 to D1 etc). 5. Coursework which is more than 20% overwordage will not be marked and will be graded as Bad Fail (BF). 6. The penalty applies only to overwordage. Students whose work is underwordage effectively potentially penalise themselves by failing to meet the assignment criteria
