IMPORTS

Colombia's imports are mainly for machinery, apparatus and mechanical instruments (11.4% of total imports); machines, appliances and electrical materials (11.3%); motor vehicles and other land vehicles (8.5%); mineral fuels and oils (6.9%) and plastics and its projects (4.9%). According to data from Comtrade, the country imported goods worth USD 51.2 billion in 2018, which corresponded to an increase of 11.2% over the previous year.

Also according to Comtrade, Colombia's main suppliers are the United States of America (25.6% of total imports in 2018) and China (20.6%), together representing 46.2% of the country's imports in 2018. Of the remaining suppliers, Mexico (7.7% of total imports in 2018), Brazil (5.5%) and Germany (4.2%) stand out.

EXPORTS

In the case of exports, Colombia stands out in fuels and mineral oils (57.9% of total exports in 2018); in coffee and tea (5.6%); pearls, stones and precious metals (3.9%); in plastics and articles thereof (3.7%) and in live plants and floriculture products (3.5%).

According to data from Comtrade, Colombian exports reached USD 41.8 billion in 2018, representing a variation rate of 10.6% compared to the previous year.

The United States of America stands out as Colombia's main customer (27.1% of total exports in 2018), followed by China (9.7%), Panama (7.3%), Ecuador (4.4%) and Turkey (4.0%).

TRADE BALANCE WITH PORTUGAL

The commercial relationship between Colombia and Portugal occupies a modest position. In 2019, the country positioned itself as the 54th customer in Portugal, absorbing 0.1% of the total Portuguese exports of goods (51.5 million euros), and as the 42nd supplier, representing 0.2% of our imports (161,9 million euros).
