Over the 2015-2019 period, there was an average annual rate of change of Portuguese exports of -2.4%, while imports registered -8.2%. The trade balance of goods is unfavorable to our country, having a deficit of 110.4 million euros in 2019, which corresponded to a coefficient of coverage of imports by exports of 31.8%.
Portuguese products exported to Colombia are mainly machines and devices (26.0% of the total in 2019); vehicles and other transport material (15.2%); plastics and rubber (10.7%); common metals (9.0%) and agricultural products (8.9%). On the import side, mineral fuels stand out (77.3% of the total in 2019), followed by agricultural products (17.2%), plastics and rubber (2.9%), food products (1, 7%) and clothing (0.1%).
LEGAL AND REGULATORY FRAMEWORK
A Trade Agreement between the European Union and its Member States and Colombia and Peru is in force, provisionally applied since 1 August 2013, to which Ecuador joined on 1 January 2017. It establishes exemptions / reductions in customs duty rates on imports into Colombia, as well as a free trade area.
However, there may be some barriers to entering the country for some specific products, such as chemicals, live animals and agri-food.
