Portuguese Lighting: How would you describe design and the market in Portugal today? What has changed since 1941?

Ana Serrador: There has been an evolution and an increasingly noticeable concern on the part of producers regarding the design of their products, which has allowed the growth of Portuguese brands in foreign markets with a greater notoriety of MADE IN PORTUGAL. This concern with the design of the piece and following trends has changed the most since 1941, when a model had a long life cycle and it was not necessary to present new collections as frequently as we do today. At the moment, there is an incessant demand from customers for new items, which forces companies to innovate.

PL: Over these 80 years, we have witnessed great evolution and growth of the company. What has inspired you over time?

AS: In these 80 years, we have continued to follow my grandfather's dream and, therefore, we aim to continue to grow, innovate and create with greater differentiation, quality and design, characteristics that are already part of our DNA.

PL: Faced with an increasingly global market and fierce competition, is it easy to continue innovating?

AS: Creativity and the search for inspiration in the elements that surround us have no limits and this, combined with always trying to do better, has allowed us to continue innovating. To innovate we have to leave our comfort zone, which is not always easy, but it is essential, as this is the only way we can differentiate ourselves from the rest.
