Polk County Schools’ library media centers are
wonderful places for students, families, and teachers
to explore literacy. Each school library offers a unique
collection and unique programming. Polk Schools’
District Library Media Services also offers district-wide
literacy initiatives through many programs throughout
the year. For more information about any of these

THE BOOKS BRIDGE
An outreach program is designed to bring books and book related
knowledge to communities in Polk County. Books Bridge Library Media
Specialists and Paraprofessional/Drivers take books on busses outfitted
as mobile classrooms to every area of Polk County.
PEOPLE OF POLK COUNTY
READING CLUB
A program formerly known as Polk Men Read. Originally, the program
was designed to address a gender gap in reading, bringing 4th and 5th
grade boys to read with adult male volunteers from the community. But,
as the success of the program grew Library Media Services expanded to
include all students and adult volunteers.
READING COMES ALIVE
A program where in Polk County secondary drama education students
perform picture books for Polk County’s 2nd grade students. Dramatic
presentations are written and produced by secondary students, based
on state award-nominated books for 2nd graders. 2nd graders travel to
local theaters to watch the books come alive.
