Suggested activities to reduce your knowledge gap in section 1

Basic Understanding : 0-17
Review your company ’ s procedures for the control and management of incidents and identify the key roles and responsibilities involved in the different stages of an incident , including on site recovery . Understand how these procedures accord with any countrywide or regulatory codes in place . Evaluate the process for writing , reviewing and communicating contingency plans in your organisation . Get involved with an emergency exercise - tabletop or site based .
Moderate Understanding 18-36
Familiarise yourself with all the roles and reporting relationships within the control structure of your company and see how these interface with other users and stakeholders within the same geographical area . Find out from colleagues what the three highest provisions in your company are for the prevention of incidents . Interview an individual who has dealt with incident and emergency management in your own company .
Good Understanding : 37-54
Review the events of a few recent incidents and draw an average timeline tracking the communication from the incident site back to control and out to the wider railway team and public . If you get a chance it would be even better to try to get a week of placements , early or late ( peak times ) in your control to watch this action . Be involved with a formal investigation panel . Read the Risk Management Maturity Model for Performance ( RM3P ).
